Independent living steps up to help celebrate our 50th year

Throughout June and July, the Independent Living teams have been hard at work holding a variety of 50th year celebration events across schemes up and down the country. A total of 45 events have taken place at our sheltered, very sheltered, supported and independent living with care schemes across the business.

The aim of these events was to bring communities together by engaging with customers, get people involved and encourage everyone to join us in celebrating our shared fiftieth year. We also wanted everyone feel like part of their local community and establish connections with their neighbours by sharing personal memories. By the sound of the comments we received, it did just that! Here are just a few things customers told us;

Rita and Bob Worsfold, customers from Apni Haweli in Chatham, Kent attended our first 50th event at Evelyn House in Strood. They say; “Thank you for inviting us. We have enjoyed the event and it’s been great fun, especially the quiz (which our team won). The people at this scheme are always so welcoming and we love coming to events over here – looking forward to the next one!”

Margaret Bartlett, a customer who lives at Briar Croft, in Stratford-upon-Avon says; “Saturdays’ 50th year celebration fete was such a lovely day. My friends, family and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The weather was in our favour too!”

Nan Green, a customer who lives at Malt Mill Lane in Alcester, says; “I have been here for 16 years and this was the best party yet! It was lovely to see so many turn out for Orbit’s 50th year. Everyone enjoyed themselves!”

Patrick Ward, one of our customers who lives at Saxon House in Lodden, Norfolk, says; “I loved the dancing. I’m hoarse now from singing!” Francis Chambers, another customer living at Saxon House, also says: “It was really nice to have a party, just like some of the old ones I used to go to!”

A big thank you to everyone who help organise the events and everyone who came along and took part in the fun!
