Queensway Court ‘sings a song’ to celebrate Orbit’s 50th year

Queensway 50Th Low Res Edited

On Thursday 13 July, customers, family, friends and staff took part in a tea party celebration event held to help commemorate Orbit’s 50th year at Queensway Court, an Orbit independent living with care housing scheme located in Leamington Spa. Over 70 people took part in the festivities that included singing entertainment by the Queensway Singers, a demonstration by the scheme’s Tai Chi group, a monologue and a musical performance from Andy, who plays at the scheme’s  monthly Magical Musical Moments Café (an innovative music project to help trigger memories for people living with dementia).

A wide variety of cakes and other goodies were baked by customers who live at the scheme, including the main celebration cake, which was baked by Alex McGhee (pictured) and his wife, Shirley. Everyone who attended had a great time and enjoyed the afternoon.

Veronica Holloway, an Orbit customer who lives at Queensway Court, says; “I really enjoyed the Orbit 50th year celebration. Everyone came together to put on a fabulous afternoon. I was part of the singing group and we performed a few songs including ‘I Believe in Angels’ and our rendition of ‘Sing a Song’ by the Carpenters.”

Paul Richards, executive director, customer services at Orbit, also came along to join in the festivities. He says; “I spent a lovely afternoon at Queensway celebrating Orbit’s 50th year and meeting customers. The Queensway Singers were great and I enjoyed the Tai Chi demonstrations - and there was tea and cake too! I also met some very happy customers who clearly love living there within such a supportive and friendly community. Well done to everyone involved!”

Founded in 1967 as a housing co-ownership society, Orbit has been building communities for 50 years, investing in homes, services and communities to help people live independently and maximise their potential.
