Let them eat cupcakes!

Malt Mill Lane 50Th Year Event WebsiteOn Monday 26 June customers and staff held an afternoon tea event at Malt Mill Lane, a historic Orbit sheltered housing scheme in Alcester, Warwickshire , to commemorate Orbit’s 50th year.

The event saw about 40 people enjoy a buffet of scones, cupcakes, trifle, sausage rolls and sandwiches. They also took part in a sixties themed quiz and a free raffle. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event and the time they got to spend together as a community. They reminisced about what they were up 50 years ago and had a good laugh sharing happy memories.

Nan Green, an Orbit customer, says; “I have been here for 16 years and this was the best party yet! It was lovely to see so many turn out for Orbit’s 50th year. Everyone enjoyed themselves!”

Kath Gregory, who lives at Malt Mill Lane say; “It was a great party! Nice to see so many neighbours together and the staff worked so hard to put on such a lovely spread.”

Ian Royle, scheme assistant at Malt Mill Lane, says; “The event was a resounding success! Everyone really enjoyed it. It was even more special because some people came along who do not usually support activities or events. It really brought everyone together as a community!”

Malt Mill Lane is one of Orbit’s oldest housing schemes, with some of the buildings dating back to the Tudor time period. It consists of 89 flats, bungalows and cottages and the historic nature of the scheme has led it to regularly winning the ‘Best Tourist Attraction’ award in the Alcester area.
