Orbit is launching Breathing Space, a free mental wellbeing support service for all customers working in partnership with Mental Health Matters (MHM), The Befriending Scheme, Support Northamptonshire, Mind in Bexley and
Orbit’s research into customer wellbeing shows more than 4,000 adult customers may be living with a mental wellbeing issue. This new service will provide customers with free access to help and advice, 24 hours a day, online, by phone or via live web chat on Orbit’s Better Days website. This service also provides the opportunity for customers to access personal and confidential face-to-face support from qualified support workers.
Sophie FitzHugh, interim head of community investment at Orbit, said:
“The local support, combined with a 24/7 helpline, will have an important role in supporting our customers’ mental wellbeing and emotional needs. It was evident from our research that our frontline staff are finding it difficult to access suitable and immediate support for our customers. This service will ensure our customers get the help and support they need, when they need it.”
A review of the 39,000-home housing association’s employment support service, revealed around 45% of customers seeking employment advice have a mental health condition. Support provided by MHM and other providers of mental wellbeing support will help these customers break down their barrier to accessing and sustaining employment.
MHM who provide support for more than 60,000 people across the UK every year will be working in partnership with Orbit to manage the 24 hour helpline.
“MHM are delighted to be working with Orbit to have the opportunity to extend our support to new areas with a dynamic partner - exciting times ahead!”
