A Stratford-on-Avon flagship development has been praised for its design features and community consultation in drawing up plans for the £40m Arden Quarter scheme at the prestigious National Housing Awards.
The town’s Arden Quarter, neighbouring the train station, scooped the ‘highly commended’ award in the Best Scheme in Planning category.
Due for completion in 2019, the new 189-home development by Orbit, the UK’s second largest developing housing association, will transform the former cattle market site that has stood redundant since its closure in 2001.
Arden Quarter will offer a mix of apartments and bedroom houses, available through a range of homeownership and rental options, alongside public amenities including retail spaces and a landscaped square that’s set to become the social heart of the new community.
Orbit’s planning of Arden Quarter was recognised by the judges for its early community consultation, close joint-working with Stratford District Council and Warwickshire County Council, and design features, by award-winning architects PRP, which reflect and complement the local surroundings of the historic town, whilst creating a unique and vibrant identity for the new development.
Chris Jones, midlands development director at Orbit, said: “With construction due to start on site shortly, we are delighted to see Arden Quarter being recognised at this stage in the development. Given our commitment to invest £40million into taking this site forward, we’re excited to start to see our vision, of high-quality new homes and a thriving community that local people are proud to be a part of, coming to life.”
