Tenancy fraud is unlawful occupation of a rented property and is a significant problem within social housing.
It has many negative impacts including reducing the number of properties available for those in genuine need, poor property maintenance and financial loss to organisations.
To raise awareness of the issue Orbit's Community Reporter's Baeti Mothobi and Tracey Kember put on their reporting caps and interviewed Mark Connolly, Orbit South's Tenancy Fraud Officer to find out more.
They created a film to highlight the subject, giving the audience as much information as possible, as well as showcasing Mark's fantastic work and success so far.
The film also introduces us to Cassandra, a victim of tenancy fraud, whose story brings to life the real impact of tenancy fraud on a family.
Community Reporter Tracey Kember said "Being involved in the film was a great experience. It was really nice to be asked and I had fun doing it. Tenancy fraud was a really good subject to highlight as I did not know much about it and I’m sure others don’t too. Hoping the Community Reporters can be used more in the future to raise awareness of other serious issues”.
