As one of the largest housing providers in the country, Orbit plays a huge role in its core communities to improve the prospects of customers and help shape future societies. This is reflected in our mission ‘Building Communities’ and our 2020 Vision.
So, starting today, Orbit is supporting Responsible Business Week (20 – 26 April), hosted by Business in the Community to demonstrate the ways in which businesses can work together to deliver a fairer society and a more sustainable future, by reflecting on the great work Orbit does to support its colleagues, communities and the environment.
There’s a lot to celebrate across the business, from our apprenticeship scheme to employee volunteering programmes and Orbit’s continued commitment to equality and diversity. Over the last 12 months 92 members of staff invested more than 566 hours to volunteering in our communities, and in 2014 Orbit became Stonewall Diversity Champions to ensure the workplace is a fair and discrimination-free environment.
Orbit also invested £1.8million in over 70 projects through our Community Investment programme last year, and achieved gold accreditation in the Sustainable Homes Index for Tomorrow (SHiFT), recognising the progress we have made against our target of ensuring existing homes have a minimum EPC rating of C by 2020 and that all new homes are built to Orbit’s Warm Homes Standards.
Further demonstrating a focus on sustainability, John Barnham, Orbit’s Head of Sustainable Investment, will be taking part in a Responsible Business Week conference this Wednesday (22 April) to explore and debate ways to be more sustainably innovative and creative so that the built environment remains fit for the future.
Paul Tennant, Orbit’s Chief Executive, said: “Responsible Business Week is not just about the impact of the big projects we’re delivering around sustainability, community investment and customer offer – it’s also about celebrating the activities Orbit’s individuals and teams are doing every day of the week to work together, innovate and deliver excellence.”
Please look out for #RBWeek tweets from @OrbitGroup and Orbit staff this week. on why they are all supporting Responsible Business Week, and how the work they do together helps make our society a better and fairer place.
