Orbit is uniting with others in the housing sector to call on government to end the housing crisis within a generation.
In the run up to the General Election on 7 May, the National Housing Federation (NHF) is championing housing as a major political issue through its Homes for Britain campaign.
This will see the housing sector unite as one voice to show the general public and politicians how important it is we tackle the housing crisis and growing affordability gap, which means many people can’t afford their own home.
As part of the national campaign, Orbit will be taking part in different events, including attending the Homes for Britain Rally on 7 March and hosting a leg of a charity cycle ride to the Rally in London, as well as championing key messages of the campaign to MPs in our community hub areas.
Through our recently published Shared Ownership 2.0 report, we are also demonstrating the need for government and the housing sector to work together to help more people into affordable home ownership. The report sets out the key issues that government, housing providers, lenders and regulators will need to address to increase shared ownership from its current 15,000 homes per year to at least 30,000 within the next Parliament – around 13% of the 240,000 new homes England needs each year.
Keep an eye out on the Orbit Group Twitter account where we will be supporting #homesforbritain and we will use examples of how we are supporting our customers and developing homes to meet need and aspiration.
