Jeremy Wright MP visits Tithe Lodge

On Tuesday 27 May, Jeremy Wright MP visited the new Tithe Lodge extra care development in Southam to see what sets it apart from your average sheltered housing scheme.

After originally seeing the plans for the site two years ago at a similar visit to Wattons Lodge in Southam, the Kenilworth and Southam MP requested a visit to the site to learn about the ‘all inclusive’ design which makes the scheme unique.

Once complete, the scheme, which is being developed by Orbit Homes in partnership with Leadbitter (a Bouygues UK company), will house 75 one and two-bed apartments in a mix of rent and shared ownership options. However, the stand out selling point of this particular development is that the site will house a new library and community space, known as Tithe Place. This is the result of a partnership between Orbit Independent Living (who will be responsible for the on-going management of the scheme), Southam Town Council and Warwickshire Libraries; Tithe Place will be open to the entire community.

When the scheme reaches completion in 2015, in addition to Tithe Place, residents will also benefit from on site care providers as well as a restaurant and a community garden.

Orbit Independent Living Business Development Manager, Lorraine Mansfield, said: “It’s great to be able to showcase what we have done here. By forging a partnership with the Town Council and Warwickshire Libraries, we are creating a real community hub.

“We’re happy to welcome Mr Wright back to one of our schemes; we work hard to deliver extra care housing solutions which enable people to live independently and it’s great to see the local MP taking an interest.”
