New Suffolk Housing Options provides boost for over 60s

A new service for older people living in Suffolk has just been launched by Orbit East’s Home Improvement Agency, Care and Repair.  The Housing Options and Advice Service, funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG), is a partnership between Care & Repair and EAC FirstStop and is aimed at people over 60, their families and their carers across the county.

A free and independent service, it offers comprehensive advice about the housing and care choices available in later life and how to access services which support independent living, enabling older people to live with increased confidence, comfort and self-support.

Housing Options recognises the important link between health, wellbeing and housing and will work with people to help them make choices to achieve independent living.

The free and confidential service provides impartial support and advice on choosing and moving into a new home plus information on housing and care options, funding, grants and repairs and improvements.

A Housing Options Advisor will work with people on an individual basis to advise on, explore and help realise expectations, which may involve maximising income to enable payment for services, to adapt or repair an existing home, or support a move to housing more suited to individual needs.

Mike Scarlett, Head of Home Improvement Services comments “This a great step forward in the strengthening the services we already offer.  This dedicated resource helps us achieve our objective of providing housing choice by enabling homeowners and private tenants to remain in greater comfort and security, thus enhancing their quality of life.”
