Leamington Older Person’s Information Day

Leamington Older Person’s Information Day

  • Time: 10:00 - 14:00
  • St Mary’s Church Hall, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire

On 10 February, Orbit Independent Living will be holding an Older Person’s Information Day for people wishing to learn more about extra care living and the services available to the older people in Leamington Spa.

Extra care is a relatively new concept; not to be confused with a typical care home, extra care schemes promote well-being and independence in later life. Schemes are cleverly designed to allow people to maintain their independence, but at the same time, ensure that care and support is available as and when required.

With Orbit’s 178-apartment Queensway Court scheme due for completion this Spring, the organisation is holding an event to help dispel some of the myths around extra care and to provide information on other local services for those interested.

The event will take place between 10am and 2pm at St Mary’s Church Hall in Leamington Spa, on Tuesday 10 February with representatives from Orbit being joined by other organisations, including: Age UK, Warwickshire District Council’s Extra Care Task Force, Warwick District Council, Home Instead, Wright Hassall and PRX.

Kerry Smith, Extra Care Development Officer at Orbit, commented: “Once complete, Queensway Court will provide housing to those aged 55 plus to allow them to remain in the local area, in suitable accommodation, where an appropriate level of support and care can be provided.

“With the scheme due to be finished within the next few months, we thought this would be a good opportunity to get together with partner organisations to not just provide information about the scheme itself, but to also inform local people about the types of services available within the area for older people.”

The scheme, which is being developed by Orbit Homes and will be managed by Orbit Independent Living, is located on Queensway in Leamington Spa and comprises 178 one and two bedroom apartments, designed specifically for the over 55’s. The apartments will be available through a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent. The design incorporates a number of communal facilities, including a restaurant, hairdressing salon and activity room, as well as a number of landscaped communal gardens and 24-hour care will be available on site, if required.
