West Midlands housing associations welcome government plans to boost supply in the region

The West Midlands Housing Association Partnership (WMHAP) has welcomed the Chancellor’s commitment to invest an extra £392 million in the region through the Local Growth Fund and address the housing shortage.

Mr Hammond’s Midlands Engine strategy pledges to invest millions to unlock land for new housing developments and overcome productivity barriers by closing the skills gap.

Partnership chair, Kevin Rodgers, chief executive of WM Group, said: “We welcome the ambition shown by the Chancellor to drive growth and the delivery of much needed housing across the region. The West Midlands has a proud history as a powerhouse of the national economy and this announcement gives us confidence that we can continue this tradition.

“Government support is vital and the WMHAP is committed to work with the new combined authority and partners across the Midlands Engine to ensure people can access high quality, affordable homes and to create vital jobs and growth.”

Last year housing associations from across the West Midlands formed a partnership to engage and support the new devolved authority to deliver the thousands of new homes the region needs.

The West Midlands Housing Association Partnership provides a single voice for housing associations to the West Midlands Combined Authority to help it deliver its social and economic aims. The partnership, which collectively manages more than 120,000 homes across the region was formally agreed in August last year with the support of the National Housing Federation.   • Black Country Housing Group
  • Sanctuary
  • Longhurst Group
  • Waterloo Housing Group

The partnership is aiming for involvement of all housing associations in the region.
