The £22million contract, which is set to begin in April, will see the delivery of 190 apartments over the next two years.

With the first apartments available for sale later this summer, when completed the St Anne’s Quarter development will offer 437 studio, one and two bedroom apartments and houses available through a mix of affordable and private rent, shared ownership and outright sale.

Maggie McCann, development director at Orbit, said: “The contract marks an important milestone in our £80million transformation of this city centre site, which previously stood empty for twenty years. As the first of the new apartments go up, Orbit’s vision for St Anne’s Quarter will really start to come to life.”

Danny Blakeston, managing director of ISG’s Engineering Services business, commented: “This latest win will build on a strong partnership with Orbit, transforming an underused site to deliver modern, high-quality mixed-tenure homes.”

Initial work on the site began in 2015 with a detailed archaeological excavation. Elements of Norwich’s medieval St Augustine friary were uncovered, including historical pottery and coins, as well as parts of a timber jetty that could have been used to bring Norman stone into Norwich for the construction of the city’s Castle and Cathedral.

Keen for the development to reflect its intriguing past, Orbit is restoring the neighbouring historic Howard House, which belonged to the Duke of Norfolk in the 17th century, as part of the plans.

St Anne’s Quarter will also provide a central plaza for both residents and the public to relax in and enjoy views of the riverfront, whilst paying homage to Victoria Cross winner Clp Sydney Day VC, who was born off St Ann’s Lane in 1891.

Orbit is currently offering three commercial units over 11,464 square foot on the plaza – to find out more about this exciting business opportunity, please email homes@orbit.org.uk
