Founded in Coventry 50 years ago, Orbit is now one of the UK’s largest housing associations and the latest organisation across Coventry and Warwickshire backing the bid to become UK City of Culture in 2021.
Orbit, which manages more than 39,000 homes, joins the 2021 Club as it celebrates 50 years of building communities.
Charley Gibbons, director of strategy and communication, said: “Fifty years ago Orbit set out on its mission of building communities here in Coventry. We’re proud to support the City of Culture Bid, celebrating the city in which this journey began.”
In Coventry, Orbit owns and manages over 1,800 properties, with a further 190 homes planned for development over the next two years.
City of Culture is a competition run by the Department of Culture Media and Sport every four years. The money raised through the support of the 2021 Club will help pay for the development of the bid over the next five years and fund a year of activity should Coventry be successful.
Initial bids will be submitted this spring with four shortlisted cities going forward to a final round of judging in autumn with the winner announced at the end of the year.
