First customers move in to affordable new homes

The first customers at Milliner Court and Old Arden Close have moved into their new homes at the £3.2million development on Leicester Road, Bedworth.

With its close proximity to the town centre, the new development by Orbit Homes, part of the 39,000-home Orbit Group, offers 38 high-quality new homes. A mix of flats and two and three bedroom houses have been provided, with ten available for shared ownership and 28 for affordable rent.

The development was supported by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC), alongside £700,000 funding from the Homes and Communities Agency. Orbit Heart of England will manage the properties going forward.

Milliner Court and Old Arden Close handover ceremony

All of the shared ownership properties at Milliner Court have been sold or reserved, and Old Arden Close is now fully occupied after the last affordable rent home was snapped up at the end of January.

To mark the occasion, a handover ceremony was held on Wednesday 17 February, attended by representatives from NBBC and Orbit.

Chris Jones, development director at Orbit Homes, said: “It’s always a joy to see to see our customers moving into their new homes, following development completion.

“We’re truly passionate about providing our customers with a range of affordable housing options, and by offering a mix of both rented and shared ownership properties here at Milliner Court we can help local residents find the right home to suit their needs and aspirations.”

Julie Jackson, housing portfolio holder at NBBC confirmed: “It is always a pleasure to see through the delivery of new affordable homes in the borough, from the planning application stage to the new customers moving in to their homes. NBBC has enjoyed a long partnership with Orbit Homes in this regard, and long may it continue.”

Councillors Bill Hancox and John Haynes, ward members for Bede, also attended the ceremony, saying: “It is great news for Bede ward to see these new homes being occupied, and it is especially gratifying to see the Old Arden name back in use, as a tribute to the former ballroom and a reminder of days gone by.”
