Independent living with care is the term used to describe housing schemes with a number of self-contained apartments which incorporate design features to allow residents to live independently. Not to be confused with retirement homes and care homes, the focus of independent living with care is to allow customers to remain independent for as long as possible; should the day arrive when a level of care is required, the scheme is flexible enough to be able to offer that care.
Independent living with care schemes give customers security and privacy, with a range of conveniences to make their lives more comfortable. This can include a restaurant, coffee shop, beauty salon, gym and/or other health facilities that are also open to the general public, resulting in a more strongly knit community. People living in independent living with care schemes have the choice of getting involved in social activities or living life more privately.
Orbit Independent Living works in partnership with Orbit Homes to develop independent living with care schemes for local people on either an affordable rented basis or via shared ownership. Older people moving into independent living with care housing invariable releases under-occupied affordable rented and owner-occupied family homes and frees up larger homes for families who need them.
