Orbit Care & Repair to launch new hoarding support and advice service

Related to: Heart of England |  –  Warwickshire |

On Friday 6 November, Orbit Care & Repair will be hosting a drop-in event to launch their new hoarding support and advice service. The event is free and anyone interested in finding out more about the service is welcome to attend. The event is running from 10am to 1pm and is taking place at Briar Croft, Orbit’s Extra Care housing scheme Alcester Road, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, CV37 6PH.

On the day, Orbit’s two Specialist Case Workers, who are also Occupational Therapists, will be on-hand to promote the service and discuss how people can access it. Orbit has also been working with two occupational therapy students and they will be on hand to discuss different aspects of the profession and what they have learned since partnering with staff at Orbit. Warwickshire Fire Service will be present to give out advice on fire safety and issues that relate to hoarding tendencies and Wiltshire Farm Foods will have a stall with information on their frozen ready meals and free delivery service.

Orbit’s hoarding service provides advice, support and practical help to individuals with compulsive hoarding tendencies and those affected by self-neglect. Compulsive hoarding can have a debilitating effect on individuals, their family, friends and the local environment, impacting on their physical and mental health.

Following a five year collaborative project with Coventry University and Orbit Care & Repair to look at best practice and produce a frontline workers toolkit, Orbit’s Community Investment team has funded two specialist case workers, who are experienced with working with individuals who have compulsive hoarding tendencies.

Addressing hoarding issues is not just about the home, but it is more about the person. We support people to make positive and sustainable changes to their lives, improving their quality of life and the lives of those around them.

The service works with individuals, and others who are close to them to reduce, reuse and recycle their excess belongings, enabling them to restore their quality of life.
