The new owner of the Stratford cattle market site, Orbit Homes, has announced initial plans for the land.
Orbit Homes recently acquired the land from developers, Redrow. The site, which is located next to Stratford Railway Station, has stood derelict since the market’s closure in 2001.
Due to a number of issues, the cattle market’s two previous owners failed to bring plans to develop homes on the site to fruition; however, Orbit is determined to use the space to create high-quality homes for the local area.
Chris Jones, Orbit Homes’ development director, commented: “We’re delighted to have acquired this site. Orbit already owns and manages a significant number of homes within the area, so we’re keen to build on that and deliver the homes the community desperately needs.
“The site already has planning for more than 200 homes – at this point we’re reviewing these plans to ensure they meet local housing demand as effectively as possible. Once a decision has been made, we’ll be consulting with interested parties to invite comments and feedback on the proposals.”
Planning permission was granted in 2013 for 214 homes and 14 commercial units.
