A successful drop-in event to promote a brand new service for people living with dementia, their families, carers and friends who live in Warwickshire took place last week at Briar Croft, Stratford upon Avon.
The service, funded by Orbit Heart of England’s Community Investment Fund and Stratford Town Trust, is to enable people with dementia to continue to live independently in their local community, to reduce the risk of crisis situations and for people to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of the disease.
Louise Gillard-Owen, one of the five trained team members covering Warwickshire, was on hand to explain what the service could offer people; including support in various settings such as one to one support at home, email and telephone information, signposting, and emotional and practical support.
An educational programme for carers and family members is also available which includes four sessions over a period of weeks. This not only provides information on dementia, planning for the future and coping strategies but also gives an opportunity for peer support and developing new friendships.
Anyone can be referred to the Dementia Support service. If you know of anyone or feel you would benefit from this service please contact:
