ORBIT GROUP LEADS THE WAY ON MORTGAGE RESCUE
Orbit Group is celebrating the completion of the highest number of mortgage rescue cases by any RSL nationwide during the last financial year. Orbit’s delivery of the Government’s Mortgage Rescue scheme has enabled a total of 117 families and individuals to remain in their own homes and communities, rather than facing homelessness and repossession.
Orbit Group is the lead RSL for Mortgage Rescue in the West Midlands, where it has worked in partnership with Sanctuary, Stafford & Rural, Aspire, Trident, and Trent & Dove, and in Norfolk and Suffolk where it partners with Flagship. In Norfolk and Suffolk Orbit completed 34 cases, and in the West Midlands helped 83 families stay in their homes, resulting in the total of 117.
In addition to this, and as a result of its success as the first RSL Mortgage Syndicator in the country and the considerable amounts of work it has done promoting the scheme to its partners, Orbit’s approach has now been adopted nationwide. And Orbit’s Mortgage Rescue team has already been recognised for its excellent work by Dudley Council who awarded the team the 2009 Smile award for Partnership Working in adult, community and housing services.
“We started the year on a high as we were the only RSL to complete a Mortgage Rescue case since the launch in January 2009, and we have ended the year still leading the pack,” said Jenny Birch, Head of Mortgage Rescue at Orbit. “The commitment of the Orbit Group and the Mortgage Rescue team has been fundamental to the scheme’s success, but more importantly to the families that we have rescued. Over the last year we have also learnt new skills and built up partnerships with lenders, Local Authorities and other RSLs, helping contribute to the wider success of the initiative. All I can say is: this year - bring it on!”
The Mortgage Rescue scheme works in two ways: eligible families receive either an equity loan in order to reduce their mortgage, or may choose to sell their homes and remain as tenants. Mortgage Rescue not only enables a vulnerable family to escape the distress and hardship that comes as a result of repossession, but is beneficial to the wider community as people can remain in their homes, jobs and schools, and among friends and family.
With it’s ability to remove the threats of homelessness and poverty and to help those at risk of losing their home due to unfortunate circumstances, be it an inability to afford mortgage payments and consequent build up of arrears due to job loss, relationship breakdown, accident or injury, Orbit’s delivery of the Government Mortgage Rescue scheme can, has and will continue to change people’s lives.
